Karl Böhm is regarded as one of the most important conductors of the 20th century. The highly esteemed Wagner interpreter and Mozart admirer not only conducted the Vienna Philharmonic more often than any other conductor, but also cultivated a long relationship with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. The box edition GREAT RECORDINGS 1953-1972, published on DG, illuminates Böhm’s unique work at the height of his career. In addition to Beethoven’s and Brahms’s symphonies with the Berlin Philharmonic, the 17 CD box also contains Böhm’s celebrated interpretation of Mozart’s serenades, as well as works by R.
