To mark the 50th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky’s death on 6 April, Sony Classical presents the first compilation of all recordings of this pivotal 20th century composer, conducted by one of the greats – Leonard Bernstein. It began in the late 1940s with excerpts from The Soldier’s Tale and the Octet, then Bernstein set a marker that still stands today with his brilliant 1958 Sacre recording with the newly acquired New York Philharmonic. Legendary versions of Petrushka, the Firebird Suite, the rare Concertino for piano and winds (with Seymour Lipkin), the Pulcinella Suite, Oedipus Rex and the Symphony of Psalms followed, as did the spectacular 1972 remake of the Sacre, this time with the London Symphony Orchestra. Also included in the 6 CD edition is Bernstein’s introduction to Petrushka from 1970
